LETTERS TO GRACE DRAFT

LETTERS TO GRACE DRAFT

In my last module, I found a love letter written to my grandma from may my grandad, I used that letter to create an image showing how my grandma has grown over the years since having that letter. This showed an important memory in her life, one that with dementia she would eventually lose, creating this into a piece was a way of preserving the memory forever. I wanted to make sure there were other memories which would never be lost. With this, I got my close family to write a letter to my grandma as if she was still alive, didn't give them any other instruction as wanted them to be free with what they wanted to write. with these letters, I took what they wrote and found/took photos to represent the letters. Each letter is like a little chapter, and my grandma's life is the story.

MY LETTER

This is the letter I wrote, I wanted it to be a happy letter, to remember all the good times we've had together, which is why I chose to have colour. for the first one, I chose this lovely picture of me when I was little and my grandma was holding me, you can see how happy she was! I also wanted to interpret her love for following the journey on the map, so in the corners, there are snippets of a map of Cornwall where we would visit. for the second image, I had previously taken pictures of a handful of photos my grandma kept as I wanted to express the fact that I wanted her to remember not just the memories with me but so many more. I also chose this because on the left side there's me being fed ice cream by my grandma, I just thought it really captured me as a child being with my grandma.

MY MUMS LETTER

With my mum's letter again she wrote is in a happy way of remembering to good old times, so proceeded with colour. My grandma was an excellent dressmaker and made my mums wedding dress along with all the bridesmaid dresses. With my mum being so over the moon with her dress it was definitely the star of the show. The first image I found a picture from my mum's wedding in which my grandma made all the ladies and girls outfits, I zoomed in on the dress and incorporated the beautiful pattern in the piece as well. For the second piece, I focused on the wedding dress to admire the amazing work my grandma did on it, especially since dressmaking was her favourite thing to do.

MY DADS LETTER

My dad's letter was put together a lot more delicately, with him not reflecting on memories but reflecting on her as a person. He wrote a very heartbreaking and emotional letter, which he pours his true feelings onto. this is why it is in black and white, to show the seriousness of the letter. in the first one, I placed together two separate images from the same holiday showing my dad and auntie on bikes and underneath have my grandparents, capturing the time they spent together. The second image is of my grandmas 60th when everyone chipped in to get her the bike she wanted, it's a day we had hoped she would have always remembered so it's important to be apart of the letter. in the bottom corners of this letter there lily's, they were the flowers at her funeral, which fits with the emotional letter.
