THE BOOK OF LETTERS TO GRACE
THE BOOK OF LETTERS TO GRACE
With all the beautiful letters edits I created, I wanted a way to link it back to the bookcase theory which was the main source of research that started me on this project. The point of the bookcase theory was showing how someone with dementia loses memories. I created the letters as a way of remembering all the past memories, but I wanted a small symbolic way to show that these are not as clear as first thought, so I printed them out on tracing paper. The tracing paper is quite flimsy and obviously slightly transparent which links to the flimsy bookcase full of memories in the bookcase theory.
From the tracing paper book, I carried on making different books. I wanted a way to incorporate a small element of sewing into the book as it was my Grandma's favourite thing to do. I printed the photos properly, and then hand sewed them onto the pages. I did this in the black thread to emphasise the hand made part, and I wanted it to really stand out instead of the way a book is normally done with trying to hide it. This is also why I decided on no cover, I wanted all the messy sewing to be on full display, this is shown with all the books I have made.
Even though I adore all the edits, the main part of each of them is the letters which have been written. I created a simples book dedicated to the letters only, this is to show off the sentimental touches of each individual letter and to show them off.
